Helloooooooo all Primers!

To celebrate the end of your common tests and Christmas, we proudly bring to you CAROLS ON WHEELS!

So some of you might wonder what is this COW all about? To give you all a clue on what is going to happen, here is what we've got from the internet.

"When people sing Christmas songs together as a group, this is known as caroling. Many people around the world engage in caroling during the holiday season, including people who are not necessarily religiously devout. In some communities, people retain the tradition of traveling as a group to sing carols to people in their homes. A caroling party can be a fun way to celebrate the holidays with friends and relatives, and it is relatively easy to organize."

Well, i won't reveal too much of the exact program but to come down yourself and experience an once-in-a-lifetime Christmas celebration!

BBSGB (Boys' Brigade Sharity Gift Box) is about helping the less fortunate families by offering them daily necessities and gifts to improve their daily life.

The main objectives for this meaningful event are to inculcate the spirit of community service and to spread the love through caring and sharing among Singaporeans.

We would be heading down to Bukit Panjang housing estate to do some door-to-door publicity and food collection. Hence we need volunteers!

NIGHT CYCLING DREAM

The day after the night cycling end, i went home and sleep. At around 5pm, my mum came to my bed to wake me up. This is what happen next.

Mum : Ah cheng, wake up liao lei. We are going out for dinner with Ah gong. faster faster.

ME : Come on! Don't give up! We are reaching soon. We can make it!! Before it rain heavily, let's chiong ah!!

Mum : What talking you?? You dreaming is it? Ask me don't give up for what? **Slap**

THE MOST ANTICIPATED EVENT IS HERE, THE RACE TO SUNRISE!
BELOW ARE SOME IMPORTANT DETAILS TO NOTE :

Attire:
- Covered shoes ( Compulsary. No shoes, No cycling. )
- White top (Compulsary)

Things to bring:
- Receipt ( It will be used to exchange for the bicycle )
(Refrain from bringing bulky items. Just a small bag for valuables will do)

- East Coast Park, around Mcdonald area. Look for the shop ( Coastal Recreation Pte Ltd )

- There will be certified First Aiders with us, and also safety officers per group.

D1.1 WORDS FROM THE HEART (PART2)

Overall, this whole event was fun indeed. No matter when there will always be laughter’s heard every where during each session. I believed that everyone had enjoyed the NDP rehearsals as it can be seen through their smiles put up on their faces. Balloon sculpturing, group bonding was a time whereby everyone starts to mingle around and have fun.

Overall, I felt that the primary school kids are much more responsive than the adults. They could scream and shout as and when they want which I can’t match with them at all as I am not an outspoken type of person. I felt that motivating the crowd is quite tough too because we have insufficient time to make balloons, or chat with them.

Thus, we can only do the best we could and put on a good show. Nevertheless there’s always our Mentors and our Team Leaders who never fail to bond our team together.

What Do You "WANT" to See?

Greetings everyone!

Here’s my belated post and let me first introduce myself for those who do not know me. I’m Sze Chuan, an ex-Primers (That was like 6 years when I’m a freshie) and now serving as an officer in NP Primers and of course, the head mentor for Cluster D in NDP.

I hope the NDP 2009 journey has been defining if not memorable moment in your life. To be able to serve the nation and at the same time having much fun & laughter, it seems like too good a deal to be missed! And I’m sure through the journey with us, you’ve made many great friends and created many precious memories :)

While the NDP 2009 has officially comes to an end, I hope every one of you does not see it as the end of the journey with Primers. Interestingly, this year’s NDP theme song is so apt, “What Do You See”. Right now, you may see it as the end of the journey with us but may I challenge everyone to ask yourself, “What do you WANT to see”. I can’t say how good or great your future journey in Primers will be unless you come and experience it yourself, just like NDP.

With that, I thank each and every one of you for the wonderful effort in NDP 2009 and all the best for your final exams!

D1.1, WORDS FROM THE HEART (PART1)

HOLIDAY~! CELEBRATE~!

Truly honored to have been part of NDP motivators...it's the first time and hopefully not the last time I’m joining this event.

Missed all the jokes, laughter, and fun our group had together. People in D1.1, whether mentors or teammates, are all very fun to be with! It’s like every Saturdays are laughing sessions for me!!! LOL. D1.1 ROCKS!!! Not to mention the free food, MILO, KFC, Pizza Hut too. XD

Recalling from learning the dance steps at Simei ITE to being good at it; from deciding the size of our costumes to being a CAREBEAR look-alike; from ITE to marina floating platform; from combined rehearsals to NE shows; and from preview to the actual day, NDP’09 finally came. Though it was only a short period of time, but we have come a long way…

The excitement that was building up deep within me exploded when we enter through gate 5…as the music goes “HOLIDAY~! CELEBRATE~!” , what I have learned during these few months were put to use, and I believed everyone gave their best shot cos it’s the last time having to dance again. Never did I think that I would be so patriotic as to say the pledge and singing the national songs loudly with pride…the fireworks were spectacular, but what got me crazy was the ending part, where we ran up towards the stage and started running around and screaming at the top of our lungs!

I cannot imagine what future Saturdays will be like without the NDP sessions.

NDP’09…A memorable and wonderful experience that will be etched in my mind for a long long time =)

Do you love Singapore?

Hi! It's me! Many of you may not know me but you would have definitely seen me around! It is my 4th year doing NDP and I would say every year is different! I was a motivator for 2 years and a mentor for 2 years! What a balance! =D

I had my best NDP in my first year in 2005, a privilege to be at National Stadium! Amazing experience and this year has been great too! =D For the first time, our holding area is at F1 Pit! Can you imagine F1?! After seeing the set up for F1, I can imagine the F1 cars zooming past except that all I saw was police cars running the track last week. =D

Every week's NDP is always filled with laughter about the "Carebear" costumes, jokes about Green Bean Soya (which I never see in NDP, I saw the advert that there is also black bean soya!). And being able to float around different groups every week make me know some of you even better! =D This year is extra super special because I am 1 of the Pledge Takers for the 8.22pm Pledge Moment in the grid! A privilege and I think all the pledge takers will agree with me! And it makes me love Singapore more and more! Even though we, the pledge takers, did not stand in the rain that very eventful pouring night, I felt the joy and the patriotism in every one of you when I saw none moved (though you guys were quite small from my view) and the excitement of being in the rain! Imagine hearing the screaming and cheering of the audience! Amazing! =D Though we will not be able to see the fireworks, we can see the reflection of it and the flashing lights of the cameras and hear the screams and cheers of the audience!! Best of all, we will be able to see President S R Nathan with unobstructed view! Are we lucky or what?!!

Sometimes we can be so numb when we do NDP without knowing the true meaning of celebrating National Day. For me, it's showing my love for Singapore and my appreciation for being such a safe and wonderful island which houses all of us comfortably. Don't you feel fortunate? The feeling is even more real when my centre (I teach adults with intellectual disabilities) celebrated National Day on Friday. I felt so patriotic and touched when I heard all my students singing all the National Day songs with pride! =D You gotta be there to feel it!

So do you love Singapore? Some of us may join NDP for the fun of making friends and all but let's go with the heart to give Singapore all that we have! Let's be thankful for Singapore even though we have some grievances (especially the guys! "Why do we need to go NS?!) but let's proudly say that WE LOVE SINGAPORE! THIS IS HOME! And it's our job to protect, maintain our country! =D Thank you all of you for the fun and laughter, the sharing of eating awful food and the many nights at MAKANSUTRA!! 有福同享有难同当! Share the joy, Share the difficulties! Don't you think that your mentors and your TLs have been doing a great job taking care of your welfare, making sure you are ok, etc etc? Remember to give them a friendly pat and appreciate them!! =D

THE BIG DAY IS TODAY!! Are we ready to give all we have and show our love for Singapore? I AM DEFINITELY SUPER DUPER EXCITED ABOUT IT!! WE ARE GOING TO GIVE SINGAPORE THE BEST SHOW EVER!! 44, 44, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE!! JIAYOU JIAYOU!! =D LET'S ALL COME TOGETHER, REACHING OUT AND REACH UP!!

NDP Reflection

This year is the first year I participate in NDP ever since p5. When I was p5, I participated NDP as a viewer, However this year, I joined NDP as a Motivator, the feeling is totally different from how I feel when I in p5. Ever since I became a NDP motivator, I learned a lot of things that I had not learned before in my life. For example, I learned how to motivate the crowd and how to make balloon sculpture.

I had a superb time with my NDP Cluster Group D1.2; they are just a great batch of people. Not forgetting my mentor, Bernice Tham, Bob and Daniel Ong are just like our parent for Every Saturday. They will always help us and try their best to settle the problem, they are the best mentor I had met=D. Hope that next year we could stay at the group as they are so great that we can’t bare to leave each other. We laughed together; we joke together; we ate awful and great food together and spend every Saturday together. Other than my group, I also met with some great friends where we will whack and stamp at each other EVERY SATURDAY, Yes I mean EVERY SATURDAY. You guys know who u are=D

The greatest memories I had for NDP will be on the BEST DRINK EVER in Singapore which is the Green Bean Soya Bean Milk by Yeo’s. We ENJOY the drink a lot, don’t you all agree with me=X ok I lied sorry haha. It is a horrible drink. To those who have not try it, you can go to any supermarket and try=X

“OMG, THE COSTUME LOOK LIKE CAREBEAR SIA!!!” this is the reaction we get when we received our costume. Wherever we walk with the costume, we could hear people saying “eh, u see carebear lai liao.” However I believe that we wore it with pride. Don’t we?
The first p5 show is the most awesome show we had so far, doesn’t u all think so? To me, I felt that it is the most awesome show we ever had due to the rain. We are drenched with rain and yet we had a lot of fun. There is also a part in the show that show that I love very much and it is the part where we took our pledge together. When I heard that we Singaporean say our pledge loudly and with pride, the feeling is so touching that it makes me want to cry.

09082009 are coming, 1 more day to go…COME ON MOTIVATORS, GIVE ALL YOU HAVE AND LET HAVE A AWESOME NIGHT!!!!

What do you see?

So yes, it is my second time as a motivator and I truly enjoy the feeling of being part of national day parade as it allows me to portrait myself as a patriotic Singaporean, not saying that I don’t do it normally, but who would actually shout I LOVE SINGAPORE in the middle of orchard road? I wouldn’t say that NDP 09 is as fun as NDP 08 but it is still enjoyable overall. Perhaps, one of the reason is because I have to shoulder the responsibilities of a team leader that is restricting me from getting really wild and crazy, couldn’t be as carefree as a freshie like how I did last year, but at least its gives me the opportunity to disclose myself towards people whom I am not close to initially, for example my precious D2.1.

D2.1 is damn good bunch of people who always seek for fun, laughter and joy as much as possible to kill unwanted waiting time during rehearsals. From random drumming to plasters, from crapping to whacking of thighs, these are the times that I enjoy most in NDP. Although D2.1 consists of year 2s and year 1s, there were no barriers between us. Sometime, lousy food play a part in team bonding, where we will complain how awful is the meal, how we wish we could have this and that for our dinner. At the end of the day, we just want a good meal to reward ourselves for the hard work and not some disgusting green bean soya drink to compensate for our sweat loss. So the solution is: (MAKANSUTRA/MAC) + (D2.1) = THUMBS UP EVERYBODY HAPPY.

Not to forget training at Simei, where we all first started. Venue was such a turn off to me as it meant Ang Mo Kio to City Hall to Simei, which means an hour of travelling time. But for NDP, I believe it is all worthwhile. The most memorable thing that happened to me there is probably when I heard that jeans are not necessary for the subsequent trainings due to the challenging dance steps where jeans might affect our performance. For once I love to practice the NDP dance steps every Saturday. And also when ASIAN BOY came out to deliver his speech, which was certainly most entertaining.

Moving on to the floating platform and that is when things started moving, where we all receive our Care Bears look alike costumes and learn the art of balloon sculpting. As the saying goes: “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going” I can see that all the motivators especially Cluster D is still standing strong. The heavy downpour is a very simple test on everyone of us. Despite being exposed to the elements of rain, we still carry out our task as motivators with enthusiasm and pride, and not beaten down by the cats and dogs falling from the sky. Just like the fireworks on that night, we still shine as bright, or even brighter.

With 09.08.2009 approaching, there is still one last show, one last dance, one last fireworks display, and this is what I have seen, what do you see?

Hello FAMILY!

I'm yee cheng here :D This is the second time joining NDP as a motivator and it's a totally different experience compare to last year. Putting the content and what we do in ndp aside first, as i believe all the primers motivators will agree that this NDP have bring them too much fun and strong bonding of friendship with everyone.

Just imagine, 2 weeks from now. The week after NDP...... Waking up on bed on a sat morning, packing your ndp bag with costume inside, bath and wearing your BB polo..and then you realize "OH, NDP ALREADY OVER"

And then you feel totally bored on sat, with the mind still in the NDP mood. Jumping back to your bed recalling those stupid joke you have with the primers family, the popping of balloon right infront of your face, the KFC and pizza hut every week, the disgusting green bean soya bean. plus the cam woring session that kok rui have been taking for us. Remembering the heavy rain that come together with the fire work, drench during the celebration with thousand of singaporean cheering and singing along at the platform!! I believe at that point of time, there will be smile on your face.... :D

I personally enjoy myself as a motivator because this are times when i can be as childish as i want to be, be as playful as i want to be, where image doesn't matter to me. Of course, as a team leader there are certain discipline that i need to have BUT THE POINT IS i always kena scold by mentors for being too playful, feeling guilty after that because none of my freshies kena scolded beside me...gosh!! But in my heart i still want to play as crazy as i want! This are time where i feel like a kid again...Poly are stress right guys? lols, missing your childhood? i believe in ndp motivators, it can bring you back to the past. Mentors are just life our parent i guess :D

Never know that you can be so open to strangers before? Never know and feel that you love singing national anthem before? Never feel proud of being a singaporean before? I believe this 3 questions can be a yes yes yes for now right? The kind of touched feeling stirring in your heart while singing the anthem with the whole nation, especially those "stages motivators" and those "pledge taking girls" i'm sure you guys feel it. because you will realize yourself singing the anthem freaking serious.

this have nothing to do being with primers as your cca anymore, this have nothing to do as being a motivators anymore, this is about you feeling proud as a singaporean!! even if you are oversea students, so what? :D singapore will be your second home then. We welcome you! Primers welcome you!

Primers have always make an impact in me, allow me to explore on my leadership quality, allowing me grow as an individual, allowing me to know the important of friends and family, allowing me to know what it mean as serving community. Primers make me who i am!

So how primers make you who you are? :D

HEY Motivators!

Do you guys still remember the dance steps??

Urgh! I have already forgotten la!

Anyway, training on this coming SAT will be at the same place and start at 10am. So please please please, we have to reach the sport hall by 9.50am (Strict rule)

We note that there are quite a few motivators that didn't attend the training last SAT, it okay if Valid reason have been given. BUT!!

for this SAT training, if there isn't any valid reason we will reconsider your role as a motivator again =( So, i hope you guys will stay with us.

Must treasure your role as a motivator alright? because we have not accept more than 20 other motivators application due to limited space.

ONE MORE BIG FUN THING!!

EXTENDED TEAM MOTIVATORS BONDING!! It will be Food Junction (a.k.a. Shi Zi Lu Kou)! You will set off in your teams to finish the task. There are about 7 food items altogether; It is expected to start at 1.30pm or so and end about 4pm. Your team will need to pass some games situated in order to move on to the next!

1. They can bring a set of comfortable clothes to change after training.
2. Make sure that their EZ-link card got sufficient money for travelling.
3. The region we are travelling is around Bedok and Tampines.
4. Please ask them to bring at least $5 that day.

Due to the overwhelming respond for NDP motivators, we truely apologise for those who are not selected in the end because of the limited space we have. We are going to accept 85 motivators and here are some of the criteria that you have to meet

- Freshies that have sign up during CCA FIESTA
- Freshies that come to Welcome Party

- Freshies that went to Post-POC / NDP briefing

** Freshies that are being put on hold, we will contact you guys up again if you are selected.

The Annual Sharity Gift Box!

Hey guys!

I guess you guys are already so looking forward to Prime-dary this weekend at Mount Faber.
But now, just wanna share with you guys on a charity affair called the Sharity GIft Box.

Basically, the Sharity Gift Box, is an annual affair organized by the Boys' Brigade. For 20 years, the Boys' Brigade has been seeking to bring cheer to the less fortunate by collecting food items and fulfilling Christmas wishes of the beneficiaries through The Boys' Brigade Sharity Gift Box. These gift items reach out to more than 180 Voluntary Welfare Organizations and 3,000 individuals under the Public Assistance Scheme.

This year The Youth Alliance(TYA) will be representing Ngee Ann in supporting the BB with this project. So do show ur support as they will be collecting food items in school to help the needy!

Collection in Ngee Ann Poly (You can bring food items down to the venues!)

Hey Primers! We’re going to have a back-to-back event coming right up. First we have the Annual NP BB Primers Dedication service at EXPO, followed by a BBQ party at Pasir Ris Park! All of you are invited to join us!

Hi all, Sharity Gift Box is here!

What is SGB?
It is an unique event due to a fact that it challenges donors to go beyond the mere giving of money; they are called to make the extra effort to buy the food items such as rice, sugar, biscuits, canned food, other daily necessities or gifts wished for, by a child from a poor family, elderly or family in our society.

SGB is an event being carried out annually to bring cheers to the less fortunate people during the festive season of Christmas. We would be doing a house-to-house collection at Bukit Panjang area and also hand over the food items collected directly to the less fortunate people.

Our target is to have 300 volunteers to join us for this magnificent and meaningful event. So do join us!

We will be collecting the food items from the residents living in Bukit Panjang area. Those food items collected will be distributed to elderly living in one room flats.
